While we logistically cannot list the many Firefighters who die weekly from firefighting occupational cancer, as much as we would like to, we do our best to share as much as possible.
We regret to pass on to you that Torrington (CT) Fire Deputy Chief Christopher Pepler died from occupational cancer yesterday. Many of you may know him as a long time FDIC Instructor.
Deputy Chief Pepler has served the Torrington FD since 1999. He began his firefighting career with the Torringford VFD and was also as a member of the Harwinton Westside Fire Department. Chris was promoted to serve Torrington as the Deputy Chief in 2013. Chris had a passion for training and was fortunate to travel extensively training others in Connecticut and across North America.
Chris became involved as an instructor at the Wolcott Regional Fire School where he served as an Assistant Director of Training for the School. Chris has taught many classes and has touched many lives, not only in Connecticut, but also across North America elevating the level of service provided in the Fire Service today. Chris is also a partner with Emergency Training Solutions providing training throughout North America and abroad.
He was part of the ETS team that produced the PowerPoint companion materials for Fire Engineering’s Handbook for Firefighter I and II. He co-authored the Tactical Perspectives, Fire Attack video series with Frank Ricci (Fire Engineering) and contributed to the Ventilation, Search, Command and Calling the Mayday video series. He assisted in the production of the John Norman DVD series Strategies and Tactics. He co-hosted the Fire Engineering Blog Talk Radio show “Politics and Tactics” with Frank Ricci.
At this time of loss, the Torrington Fire Department honors the service of Deputy Chief Pepler to the City of Torrington and the Fire Service Community. Our thoughts and Prayers are with Chris’s family during this most difficult time. The arrangements are as follows: the calling hours will be (TOMORROW) from 4-8 pm. on Friday November 3, 2017 at the Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT.
A Funeral Mass will be at 10am. on Saturday November 4, 2017 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 78 Litchfield Rd., Harwinton CT. Burial will be at the St. Peter’s Cemetery East Pearl Rd. Torrington CT. immediately following the Mass. Due to parking concerns, it is requested that you do not bring apparatus to the wake or funeral. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest in Peace.
