Court Shaffer, 42, suffered a massive heart attack while on the job Friday when he and other members of the Big Spring Fire Department were battling a structure fully engulfed in flames.
After a few minutes of fighting the fire, Shaffer was complaining of chest pain.
Other firefighters on the scene were able to get him to the hospital.
According to BS Fire Chief Craig Ferguson, ambulances already on scene made all the difference.
“I can’t tell you what a difference it made for him to recognize he was having problems to get to the crew and the crew to get to him it saved his life,” said Ferguson.
