The Terrytown Volunteer Fire Department had equipment stolen by a man brandishing a handgun. Although firefighters were at the station, they never encountered the intruder and no one was injured.
At one point, the man aimed the weapon at the door leading from the apparatus bay to the station, NOLA.com reports. Authorities say they think he may have been startled by noise from the living quarters.
Some of the stolen equipment was found abandoned in a different parish.
Police are still looking for the suspect and are offering $2,500 for information that leads to an indictment.
