The Secret List www.FireFighterCloseCalls.com
It’s with deep regret that we pass on that a 26-year veteran of the San Francisco Fire Department died in the Line of Duty this morning while working shift at Battalion 1. Battalion Chief Terry Smerdel returned from an early morning call and was later found unresponsive by his Firefighters in his office. His own troops immediately performed Advanced Life Support, but it was too late.
A beloved member of the SFFD, after the September 11 terrorist attack in New York, Chief Smerdel was one of the San Francisco firefighters who volunteered to provide aid. Chief Smerdel started with the department in 1991 and had been with Battalion 9 since January 2017.
Chief Smerdel is survived by his wife Cyndy, daughter Danica, son-in-law Vince, grandson Christian, son Jack and his fiancé Christine, as well his sister Kathy and brother, retired Battalion Chief, Tony Smerdel.
HERE is an interview with him following his 9/11 related detail in New York City:
Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace.
Take Care. Be Careful. Pass It On.
