A San Francisco firefighter was injured in a blaze that broke out Thursday afternoon in a three-story home in city’s Bayview neighborhood, an official said.
While trying to put out the flames at the residence in the 100 block of Apollo Street just after 1 p.m., the firefighter fell down a flight of stairs, injuring his wrist and hand, said Lt. Jonathan Baxter, a spokesman for the San Francisco Fire Department.
He was taken to the hospital and was expected to fully recover, Baxter said.
An adult had to be rescued by firefighters from the third floor of the building — which appeared to be a large, single-family home — Baxter said, adding that the rescued person was not injured.
There were 11 people home when the fire, which extensively damaged all three floors of the structure, broke out, Baxter said — four children and seven adults. Red Cross workers were on scene assisting those displaced, he said
