San Bernardino County, California authorities arrested a 23-year-old man they say set eight wildfires, one that injured a firefighter.
The accused, Jarrod Samra, was a member of the San Manuel (Calif.) Fire Department’s explorer program until he reached the program’s maximum age of 21.
In addition to the eight counts of arson, Samra is also charged with causing great bodily injury for the firefighter who was hurt, NBC4 reported. Authorities say they found evidence at each of the eight fires connecting them to Samra.
“Thankfully, through the investigative work of our law enforcement and public safety partners, we were able to stop this individual and prevent any future destruction or potential loss of life,” District Attorney Mike Ramos told NBC.
Investigators were preparing arrest warrants when another fire broke out last week. Samra’s vehicle was located near that fire.
