It is with deep regret and sadness that the Sacramento Fire Department announces the line of duty death of one of its own members. Firefighter Tamara Thacher passed away today, November 26th 2019, after battling occupational cancer.
A member of the Sacramento City Fire Department since 1988, Tamara (Tami), was well loved and respected by all her fellow firefighters, colleagues, family and friends. She spent most of her career at Fire Station 5 working as a firefighter and serving the community. Over the span of her 31-year career, she served in many capacities. She was a training instructor, emergency medical technician and a role model for aspiring female firefighters.
Late in her career, Tami realized a need to help serve other members of the department who were struggling with behavioral health issues. She became a peer support counselor and helped countless firefighters deal with their personal struggles.
Information on memorial services is pending. Details on funeral arrangements will be forthcoming.
