KEYSER -The Mineral County Commission is one of three parties that have had a civil action case brought against them by Ridgeley resident Mike Taccino for the excessive noise level caused by a fire alarm mounted on a pole near his home.
During the Tuesday morning meeting of the county commission, Drew Brubaker, county coordinator, announced the civil action was issued not only to the commission, but also to the Ridgeley Fire Department, and the fire chief of that department.
Brubaker said, “The civil action has been forwarded to an attorney by the commission’s insurance company.”
Taccino had on two occasions, with the last one in late June, brought his concern to the Mineral County Commission about the noise level of the Ridgeley VFD fire alarm.
He had said at that time that coming before the commissioners was “my last-ditch effort.”
During the June meeting, Taccino produced photos showing the fire alarm mounted on a pole, and the area was overgrown with brush and weeds, making it impossible to gain entrance to the spot without going across his property.
He added that his personal vehicles, located on his property, must be moved when fire officials must gain entrance to the fire alarm area.
Taccino previously brought additional information to the commissioners in dealing with the noise level at his house when the fire alarm sounds.
He said the reading taken at his front door measures 120 decibels during the time the alarm is sounding.
At the June meeting, Taccino said that if this case made it to court, “The money spent by the fire department would buy a new piece of equipment.”
