A New Haven Fire Department lieutenant confirmed to News 8 that a recruit from the Providence Fire Department Training Academy fell from a building while training at the New Haven Regional Fire Training Academy at 230 Ella T. Grasso Blvd.
Providence officials have identified the firefighter recruit as Richard Brand.
According to spokeswoman, the recruit’s injuries are non-life threatening but sources say that he does have several broken bones and has been taken to Yale New Haven Hospital.
News 8 was told by sources that recruits were training on the “antiquated” pompier ladder when the fall occurred. According to Providence Firefighters’ Union President Paul Doughty, Thursday was the first day that approximately 80 recruits were using the facility.
Officials say the incident did not involve the New Haven Fire Department or any of its personnel.
