PROVIDENCE — Police are investigating a crash involving an SUV and a Providence Fire Department ladder truck that was on its way to a call on Monday afternoon, said Providence Deputy Fire Chief Steve Capracotta.
The truck, Ladder 8, was driving down South Main Street en route to a reported fire on Sixth Street when an SUV pulled out in front of it near the intersection with Packett Street, Capracotta said. The truck had its siren on and lights flashing.
The ladder truck and the SUV collided, causing damage to the SUV and the bumper of the ladder truck, he said.
Firefighters called an ambulance to the scene, but the driver of the SUV, who was the vehicle’s only occupant, refused treatment, Capracotta said. The SUV was towed from the scene.
Firefighters drove the ladder truck to the Public Safety Repair Department to be fixed, Capracotta said.
