As a followup to the struck by Line of Duty Death of beloved Comstock (MI) Fire Chief Ed Switalski, Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department has requested an arrest warrant (which was approved by the prosecutor) for a suspect in the crash which killed the Chief.
24-year-old Brandon Clevenger is charged with reckless driving causing death, in the June 14 crash that happened on eastbound I-94, in Comstock.
At about 2130 hours on June 14, 2017, Chief Switalski was among those operating at a crash scene on eastbound I-94. As companies were preparing to leave the scene, Clevengers vehicle lost control and struck Chief Switalski, as he was standing near the rear of his rescue vehicle.

Rescuers did all they could but Chief Switalski was declared dead at the scene. He left behind his wife and two daughters as well as his Firefighters from both Michigan and Illinois-where he served years his his career.
