The heat inside the single-family structure was so intense firefighters came out of the Richmond Heights, Ohio fire Saturday with damaged face pieces and helmets.
One person reported a man was still inside the burning home when firefighters arrived, and despite the heavy fire and smoke, they heard faint sounds from him, Fox8 reported.
“I’ve been a firefighter going on 20 years now and I’ve not been in a fire with that amount of clutter and debris to hamper firefighting efforts,” Lt. Buss told Fox8. “It was incredible and an incredible amount of difficulties we had due to conditions at the home.”
In addition to the hoarding conditions, the fire was fueled by the man’s art supplies — paint lacquers and thinners.
There were no reported firefighter injuries.
