One of the people who died of an “accidental electrocution” Sunday (today) following a car crash in Lorain County (near Cleveland) was a Columbia Township Firefighter. Firefighter Brett Wilson, 23, was with the department for two years and just completed his paramedic certificate 3 months ago.
Firefighter Wilson, along with a 24-year-old woman, stopped to assist at the scene of the car crash at around 0255 hours this morning. 2 men in a Pontiac went off the road and hit a utility pole, causing the pole to break in half and the power lines fell onto the road. Both people in the Pontiac got out of the car and started to walk northbound across the roadway and came into contact with the downed power lines. As Firefighter Wilson and the woman were offering their help at the scene, they, too, came into contact with the downed power lines. FF Wilson and the passenger of the Pontiac were killed. The others were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
Our condolences to all those affected by these losses. Rest In Peace.
