Multiple fire departments responded to a house fire on South Rosborough Street during Friday’s coastal storm, and one firefighter was injured, authorities said.
The fire was reported just before 3 p.m., Ventnor City Fire Chief Michael Cahill said.
Firefighters arrived at the two-story house and saw flames out of several windows. Cahill said the fire was heavy on the first floor and traveled through the walls to the second floor. Strong winds pushed the smoke and flames, but the fire was contained to the one home.
Fire departments from Margate, Atlantic City, Pleasantville and Longport assisted with the three-alarm blaze.
No one was in the home, and Cahill said investigators are unsure whether there is a full-time resident. He said the home took serious structural damage, as did personal belongings inside it.
Cahill said a Margate firefighter experienced equipment failure and removed his mask. He experienced respiratory issues and smoke inhalation and was taken by ambulance to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Cahill said. The firefighter was treated and released later Friday night.
Cahill said crews had the blaze under control in about an hour. An investigation of the cause is ongoing.
