A Houston firefighter was hospitalized for dehydration while battling a blaze at a northwest-side apartment complex.
The firefighter, who was not identified, was overcome at a
three-alarm fire that broke out about 8 p.m. on Monday at an apartment
along Watonga at La Monte, officials said.
The fire was brought under control about an hour later. There were no other reported injuries, officials said.
A common attic in the building helped the fire to spread, officials said.
HFD officials at the scene said the flames heavily damaged eight apartments while eight others sustained smoke and water damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The displaced residents will be placed in other apartments in the complex, HFD officials said.
The firefighter was taken away by ambulance to be treated for
dehydration at Memorial Hermann Hospital and is expected to be OK, HFD
officials said.
