An Orange County Fire Authority truck slammed into a massive tree this evening in a crash that was apparently powerful enough to sever the emergency vehicle. Four fire fighters on board suffered injuries and were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Ladders and fire-fighting gear were strewn across the roadway. Aerial footage showed the truck almost entirely on a roadway median, leaning against a gnarled tree. The right half of the truck's back portion appeared to have broken off from the rest of the apparatus (pictured below).
It was not immediately known whether the truck's emergency lights or sirens were on at the time of the crash, or if the crew was responding to or returning from a call.
