Southern Avenue ambulance accident kills one person - Washington, DC

Friday, January 25, 2013 A woman was killed in a fiery crash Friday afternoon in Southeast D.C. when the Caravan she was driving hit a D. C. ambulance and went flying in the air, landed on its roof, and burst into flames.

The crash happened just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Southern Avenue and 13th Street SE. near the D.C.-Prince George's County border.

Police say the Caravan hit a green Honda Accord first then hit the ambulance. The ambulance then hit two other cars.

The woman was trapped and died in her vehicle as it burned.

Fire officials say that two firefighters in the ambulance were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses talked with ABC7’s Jennifer Donelan and one shared a video taken as the Caravan was still in flames.
