1/16/2013, while setting up water supply in a rural area for a structure fire with multiple agencies involved, tankers were pulling in and backing into locations, at one point we needed to extend additional supply hose and while myself and another was doing that a tanker started backing down the drive area with directions of a spotter. I had my back to the oncoming tanker and did not realize how close it was and the spotter turned away for a sec. The next thing I know the rear tailboard caught me in the calf of my leg and was bending me underneath, the only thing I could do was jump forward and hit the ground and roll toward the ditch. Besides knocking the wind out of me and a couple sore calves, I returned to water supply duties after a few minutes... Be aware of your surroundings and if you are spotting vehicles don’t take your eyes off the vehicle or people or objects around it.
Be aware of your surrounding and if you are a spotter be aware of objects and people around the vehicle
