NE FF FALLS OFF ROOF AT HOUSE FIRE

Sunday, December 23, 2012 A firefighter was hurt while battling a house fire in south Lincoln.

Crews responded to home near 90th and Old Cheney around 11:00 Saturday morning on reports of smoke inside the house.

When they got there, they found flames on the first and second floors of the east side of the house.

While climbing to the roof, a fire fighter slipped off the ladder and was injured.

The acting Battalion Chief said the injured first responder was alert when he was transported to the hospital.

Fire crews were able to get the blaze under control quickly.

The flames had not spread to the attic.

The family was able to escape the home unhurt, but sadly the family cat died, despite firefighters' best efforts to save it with oxygen.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
