METH LAB IN A HI RISE CONDO? WELCOME TO OUR WORLD

Wednesday, December 5, 2012 The Lido Regency Condominium in Sarasota was evacuated after an unoccupied apartment caught fire Tuesday morning. Apartment 12B was being used as a meth lab, and held oxygen tanks, compressed gas tanks along with unidentified chemicals. Firefighters responded to the complex, located at 1700 Ben Franklin Drive, at 8:30, and a hazmat team was brought in to remove a badly damaged compressed air tank. It could have exploded. All 13 floors, some 40 tenants, were evacuated, and residents were taken to a nearby Holiday Inn. Eight firefighters were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and treated for possible exposure to the chemicals.
