A family was displaced and a firefighter
was burned after a fire at a house in Lanham.
Firefighters arrived at the home in the 8900 block of hickory Hill
Avenue at 9:30 p.m. Thursday to see both floors of the house were on
fire. They fought the fire for about 15 minutes before deciding to call
for extra firefighters. Shortly after 10 p.m., the fire was
extinguished.
A firefighter received first and second degree burns to his upper body
and was transported to a burn unit. Thursday night, he was reported to
be in fair condition.
The fire appears to be accidental but investigators are still working to
identify the exact cause of the fire.
The family that lived at the home escaped safely. Due to the fire
damage, the family has been displaced. The Red Cross is helping the
family.
