OR APPARATUS CRUSHED BY FALLING TREES

Thursday, November 22, 2012 Seaside volunteer firefighter Derek Spivey and three other firefighters were putting tools away in their fire truck after helping to clear several fallen trees on U.S. Highway 26 Monday when they heard other trees cracking.

Suddenly, three or four alder trees crashed onto the truck only a few feet from the firefighters.

“We just took off running,” said Spivey.

No one was injured. The truck was damaged and was towed to the Seaside fire station.

It was the first time anything like that has happened to him, said Spivey, who has been a firefighter for seven years. Next time, he added, he will be more cautious
