UK FF SUES DEPT. AFTER FALL FROM APPARATUS

Friday, November 16, 2012 A FIREMAN is suing his bosses for more than £150,000 after he tripped while getting out of a fire engine.

Robert Anderson, 49, hurt his back, remains on painkillers and lost his job with an engineering firm after the accident.

The part-time firefighter claims he caught his foot on loose door trim.

In papers lodged at the Court of Session, his lawyers claim a stop gap repair had been made to the door at the time of the 2009 incident in Dunoon, Argyll.

They say the firefighter was climbing down in the “prescribed fashion”.

“As he attempted to do so…his foot caught on a section of trim from the door of the fire appliance which was loose, such that he lost his balance and fell to the ground landing heavily on his back.”

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service say Robert, of Dunoon, was at least partly to blame and that the sum sued for is excessive.
