Video: 3 killed in police chase crash with ambulance - Georgia

Friday, November 16, 2012 BRUNSWICK, Ga. -Three people were killed early Tuesday morning in a crash between a car being pursued by Glynn County police and a private ambulance.

The Georgia State Patrol said the crash happened just before 1 a.m. on Golden Isle Parkway near Cypress Mill Road.

Troopers said the Toyota driven by 29-year-old Candice Smith rear-ended the ambulance at a high speed, killing her and two passengers, 33-year-olds Corey Lee Lemon and Cedric Daniels. All are from Brunswick. None were wearing seat belts.

The ambulance is owned by Southside Community Fire Protection Inc. of Savannah. The driver was not hurt.

A second ambulance employee and a patient received minor injuries.

Police said an officer saw the car stopped at a stop sign and not moving for several minutes, and he put his spotlight on the car. The driver had her head down, and when the light hit her, she took off, police said.

The pursuit lasted about five miles at speeds over 100 mph, police said. They estimated the car was going about 100 mph when it slammed into the ambulance.
