NEW YORK CITY'S VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS - A DIRECT
HIT BY THE STORM:
As Hurricane Sandy turned the streets of their community
into raging rivers, one company of New York City volunteer Firefighters ditched
their rescue boats and sought refuge in the community center. Inside they found
another bunch of volunteer Firefighters, also stranded by rising water, who
asked, "Are you here to rescue us?"

embers the size of baseballs through the heart of this close-knit community on

conflagration....
Water and fire take a whole new meaning for the volunteer
Firefighters of the Massapequa, Long Island, NY FD...at this working fire
during hurricane Sandy:
