An Orangeville Fire Department truck, responding to an emergency
call Tuesday night and traveling eastbound on Broadway between John
Street and First Street, struck a vehicle and ended up wedged between
the post office and a next door furniture store.
According to a
witness at the scene of the accident, which occurred at approximately
6:30 p.m., the fire truck had swerved into the west bound lane to
avoid a vehicle that had pulled over, and struck the westbound vehicle,
which was a Honda towing an all-terrain vehicle.
The
ATV was detached from the Honda and dragged by the fire truck. Another
witness, Jordan Murray, said the driver of the fire truck "nearly hit
three people (when the vehicle swerved). He made the turn and couldn't
stop at all."
One of the pedestrians, according to
Ms. Murray, was her stepfather, who she said had to hasten his pace in
order to avoid being struck by the fire vehicle when it jumped the
eastbound sidewalk.
Police and ambulances were on the scene, but there appeared to be no serious injuries.
