Fire broke out in the White Tomato restaurant in Bourke St at about 1.40am.
The fire started in the kitchen, but climbed a flue at the rear of the restaurant and spread to a mezzanine level.
The fire brigade was on the scene in three minutes and able to prevent the kitchen fire from spreading from the popular Korean barbecue eatery, limiting damage to $200,000.
But one of the fire fighters suffered minor burns to his face and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Extensive heat damage was caused by the fire which also released large volumes of smoke into the restaurant.
