The Galax Police Department is searching for a hit and run driver, who crashed into an ambulance.
Deputy Chief James Cox says the crash took place this past Friday night, April 27th, at 7:00 p.m. A Galax-Grayson Ambulance was driving on North Lafayette Street to pick-up a patient, without its siren or emergency lights on.
Cox says a 2003 Dodge Neon being driven by 24-year-old Miguel Ortega Rodrigues, was driving east on West Center Street, did not stop at a stop sign, and crashed into the driver's side of the ambulance. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt.
Police tell WSLS that Rodrigues ran off after the crash, and is still missing. He's wanted on charges of hit & run, driving while suspended, failing to obey a stop sign.
Investigators estimate damage to the ambulance at $9,000, and $10,000 to the Neon.
If you have any information of Rodrigues' whereabouts, call Galax Police at 276-236-8101 or text GALAX to TIP411.
