One firefighter suffered serious injuries while battling a three-alarm fire at
an apartment complex in Montgomery County this afternoon. Montgomery
County Firefighters responded to the garden style apartments located in the 2800
block of Terrace Drive in the Lyttonsville section of Silver Spring around 1415 hours. The fire began in the common attic area of one of the apartments and
quickly spread to neighboring buildings. A decision was made for firefighters
to evacuate once it jumped from two to three alarms. Companies then
went into an exterior attack mode to continue battling the flames. No civilians were injured, but
approximately 20 units at the complex had been destroyed or impacted by the
flames. The injured firefighter was transported to the hospital with serious,
but non-life threatening injuries.
