Theo Nkonki JOHANNESBURG - An Emergency Management Services (EMS) paramedic is in hospital, after being hit with a bottle while attending to a patient in Ivory Park, north of Johannesburg.
Paramedics were called to attend to an elderly woman in the area, who had been stabbed by her daughter in the early hours of Saturday.
Emergency services said a female bystander asked one of the paramedics for a cigarette, and assaulted him with a bottle when he told her that he does not smoke.
The woman was arrested and faces a charge of assault.
Spokesperson for the EMS, Synock Matobako, said the other paramedic on duty approached police for help.
The daughter of the initial patient was also arrested after the stabbing incident.
