Paramedic injured in crash - Australia

Friday, January 27, 2012 By Amy Remeikis

A Brisbane paramedic is recovering after being bumped by a car overnight.

Police are hunting for two men who fled the scene of the accident just before 1am.

Officers are still piecing together what happened after ambulance and fire crews responded to a single vehicle crash on the Centenary Highway at Mt Ommaney.

A driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a concrete barricade and while he was being treated for minor injuries, traffic was slowed and moved into one lane while the wreckage was cleared.

A police spokeswoman said it appeared a vehicle approaching the scene didn't note the changed conditions and hit a car in front.

A chain reaction of small crashes occurred, which ended with a parked ambulance and a paramedic being hit.

A Department of Community Services spokeswoman said the paramedic had “soft tissue” injuries and she was taken to hospital as a precaution, but did not require admittance.

Police are speaking with a number of men who were in the car which caused the crash, while still looking for those who fled.
