Police: Alleged ambulance thief surrenders - Georgia

Thursday, July 29, 2010 By Larry Hartstein

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

An 18-year-old accused of stealing a Grady Memorial Hospital ambulance and going for a joyride turned himself in Saturday, Atlanta police said.

Frank Howard of Atlanta was booked into the Fulton County Jail on a charge of auto theft. He had been wanted since July 7. That's when paramedics responding to a sick call at an apartment complex left the engine running and returned to find the ambulance missing.

The ambulance was found the same day in a ditch along Thomasville Boulevard in southeast Atlanta -- its engine still running.

"Nothing was missing out of the ambulance," Atlanta police Lt. Antonio Clay told WSB-TV. "It just had been crashed."
