Seven people went into the cold water of the flooded Elkhorn River just after 9 p.m. Thursday night.
It happened during a rescue operation. Fremont firefighters were trying to reach some stranded people in a home whose basement had collapsed when their boat capsized.
As of 10:30 p.m. all of those in the water were brought to safety. They were in the water for at least an hour.
Fremont Fire Department officials said all of the crew members are expected to be okay.
The alert prompted a massive response from other area fire departments like Arlington and Waterloo.
