A House Springs resident was shooting off mortar-style fireworks on July 4 when the launching tube tipped over and fired under the person’s mobile home in the 5500 block of Park Drive, starting a fire, said Engineer John Barton of the High Ridge Fire Protection District.
A High Ridge firefighter was injured while trying to put out the fire and was transported to SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Fenton by North Jefferson County Ambulance, Barton said.
He said the firefighter had minor injures and was released from the hospital late Saturday night.
Barton said the home only had minor damage and is still habitable.
He said crews were dispatched to the home at 9:36 p.m. and arrived on the scene at 9:46 p.m. He said the fire was under control by 10:01 p.m., and crews left the scene at 10:45 p.m.
The Saline Valley, Antonia and Eureka fire protection districts and the North Jefferson County Ambulance District helped with the call.
