A Macomb Township, Michigan man was taken into custody after he jumped in drove off in an unattended MedStar ambulance idling at a hospital during a patient delivery.
The 21-year-old led police on a brief chase through Mount Clemens before running the ambulance off the road onto a grassy hill, according to Fox2. He refused to exit the ambulance, causing police to break one of the rig’s windows.
“Two deputies that were in the area saw the van and attempted to stop it,” Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said.
No one was injured in the incident.
Police said the man attempted to get prescription medication from the hospital, but was refused; that they say, may have sparked the ambulance theft.
The incident occurred Oct. 7. The man was held on a $75,000 bond and charged with one felony.
