North Beach (Calvert County, Maryland) Volunteer Fire Rescue Department Capt. Patricia Osburn suffered a medical emergency and died while transporting a patient early Saturday morning.
Capt. Osburn, an EMT, was en route to Calvert Health Medical Center with a patient. Upon arrival, she was found unresponsive in the ambulance. Efforts to resuscitate her began immediately, but were ultimately unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at 0649 hours.
Osburn was an 18-year veteran of North Beach and earned numerous awards and recognitions including those for saving lives and being top EMS runner. Her two daughters, two sons-in-law and granddaughter followed Osburn into firefighting by joining North Beach.
“Her dedication to serving the community was immense and her influence, and friendship, will be greatly missed by all members and officers of the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department,” Calvert County Sheriff Mike Evans wrote in a Facebook post. “She was committed to every citizen of Calvert County. Please keep her friends, family, and members of the NBVFD in your thoughts and prayers.”
