An extreme close call (as in thankfully no one was seriously hurt but apparatus was majorly damaged) in Seattle (Washington) this morning when a responding Seattle engine company and a ladder company crashed into each other sending 8 members to the hospital.
The companies were responding to an automatic fire alarm when the crash occurred just before 0800 hours at Northeast 65th Street and 12th Avenue.
The firefighters were taken to Harborview Medical Center for evaluation but were later released with no serious injuries, The engine was responding east on 65th and the ladder was responding north on 12th when the collision occurred.
While the facts of exactly what happened aren’t out yet-this is another reminder of the extreme risks that exist for us when responding-especially at intersections.
A great time to confirm, review and drill on your department policy specific to emergency vehicle operations, qualifications and training.
Take Care. Be Careful. Pass it On.
