We regret to pass on to you the Line of Duty Death of Firefighter Jeffery Alan Blackmer of Hamilton Volunteer Fire Company in Indiana (Muncie area).
Firefighter Blackmer was found dead in the firehouse at around 0945 hours this morning after he failed to return home following a response. His department had fought a barn fire just after 0200 with most firefighters clearing quarters and returning home around 0530. When his fiancee became concerned, she contacted other Firefighters who went looking for him. They located him at the firehouse where he had apparently been washing his gear when he suffered an apparent heart attack.
He was 42 years old and had been with the department for just under a year. He had served previously with the Albany Delaware Township Volunteer Fire Department (also in Indiana) and the Helenville Fire Department in Wisconsin. He is survived by his fiancee, Emily Copley, son – Nicholas (11), daughter – Kellie (4), two brothers and a sister.
