Although very few details are available, the Carpentersville (Ill.) Fire Department announced on Facebook that its battalion chief died Tuesday.
The department posted that Chief Todd Middendorf died in a “sudden and unexpected incident,” the Daily Herald reported. The paper could not reach department officials for further information.
It is unknown at this time if Chief Middendorf was on or off duty at the time of his death.
According to the Carpentersville Professional Fire Fighters Local 4790 Facebook page, Chief Middendorf was a 23-year veteran who leaves behind a wife and young son.
“It is with a heavy heart that the Carpentersville Public Safety Departments report the untimely death of a valuable member of the fire department,” the Tuesday fire department post said. “Battalion Chief Todd Middendorf passed today as a result of a sudden and unexpected incident. Please keep the Middendorf family and his Public Safety family in your prayers as we move forward.”
