At a recent commercial structure fire, Phoenix (Az) Ladder 11 responded and found an unusual item during one of their assigned fireground functions. The member assigned to cut utilities found the exterior electrical panel and was unsure of it’s operation and chose not to cut the power for safety reasons.
An Arizona PS field representative explained that these type of fuse holders are commonly found on small business electrical panels and are similar to the types used on many home air conditioners. They can be pulled out to disconnect power and set aside or reinstalled upside down, checking the arrows on the plastic face to indicate if the fuse is active or inactive. There may be a spark if the circuit is under load and if live, should not be re-inserted into the panel. SEE BELOW PHOTOS.
