Funeral arrangements have been finalized for Cabin John (Montgomery County, MD) Volunteer Retired Fire Chief James Seavey, Sr., who was also a retired Captain of the Washington, DC Fire Department. Jim was a current board member of the Int’l Association of Fire Chiefs Volunteer & Combination Officers Section.
The memorial service will be held at the Washington National Cathedral on Friday, Sept. 14. at 1000 Hours. A reception will follow the memorial service at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Rockville.
The lifelong firefighter began his career as a 16-year-old volunteer in the Glen Echo Volunteer Fire Department, Montgomery County MD, in 1967. Through the years, he rose through the ranks and became Assistant Chief. He moved to the nearby Cabin John Park department in 1992 and held the position of Chief until his retirement in December 2017.
He was first appointed to the DCFD on May 27, 1986 and retired from the department in 2016, after almost 30 years of service.
Seavey Sr., 58, died on Sept. 4 after years of battling non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He served as Firefighter, Captain and Chief in the Washington D.C. area for more than 40 years. As a career Firefighter, Seavey served with DCFD for 30 years before retiring in 2016.
