By Neal Moore, Fox59:
Four Indianapolis Fire Department firefighters are recovering after a head-on crash on Indy’s east side–and police have arrested a man suspected of driving under the influence.
The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. on the city’s east side as firefighters were responding to a call.
Investigators said the fire truck was responding to a medical run and was using its siren and flashing lights when a silver sedan crossed the center line near East 38th Street and North Butler Avenue.
Four firefighters were taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital for minor scrapes and bruises. The driver of the car–identified as David Bender–was taken into custody as police investigated the circumstances surrounding the crash. Bender was later arrested on a preliminary charge of operating while intoxicated, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
