Today has been a tragic day when we lost my friend, EMS partner, and fellow medic in both Wamsutter and Rawlins. Wamsutter EMS and Carbon County EMS were paged to the scene of a vehicle crash. Wamsutter EMS had arrived first but due to the fact that there was only a single person on their ambulance we had been asked to continue. We were canceled as we got close to the scene. As we pulled up to the scene we noticed law-enforcement and firefighters rushing over towards the side of the ambulance. There we saw the medic on the ground with CPR being started. He had told the survivor of the crash that he was feeling funny and was going to step out of the ambulance for a moment where he went down and within seconds we were with him. Despite our efforts we were unable to resuscitate him. Michael Wilder died in the line of duty doing what he loved and surrounded by his first responders family. He will be missed. I appreciate all of the support shown today and know for myself and others that even though this was very painful we are grateful that we could be there for him. Many thanks to all of those who helped CCEMS. Thank You Wyoming Highway Patrol Troopers, Sweetwater County Sheriffs Office, Wamsutter Fire Department, Carbon County Fire Department, Classic Air Medical, Rawlins Fire Department, Rawlins Police Department, Carbon County Sheriffs Office, and all of the ER staff at Memorial Hospital of Carbon Country we couldn’t do it without all of us together.
