NEW IAFC PRESIDENT, FIRE CHIEF GARY LUDWIG KICKS OFF A NEW FIREFIGHTER SURVIVAL CAMPAIGN: “If You Don’t Feel Well… Don’t Make It Your Farewell”
Last week at the IAFC’s Fire Rescue International Conference, Chief Gary Ludwig (who was just installed as President of the IAFC) announced a new campaign (in cooperation with IAFC Safety, Health & Survival, EMS, VCOS Section’s and others) that focuses on the fact that many firefighters have experienced discomfort or chest pain-but yet keep doing what they are doing-often ignoring potential warning signs.
“I urge every Firefighter, Company Officer and Chiefs-along with EMS personnel, to be aware of the warning, that when a firefighter has any indications of discomfort, to treat it as the real thing. While some cases may be simple false alarms, we have experienced too many good firefighters and officers, who are so dedicated to their jobs, not wanting to bother anyone, or make a big deal about some pain, who tragically then end up giving their lives in the line of duty, where perhaps their life could be saved”
Much more to come out on this new awareness campaign aimed to save firefighters lives, from Chief Ludwig and the IAFC soon.
