Survivair was recently notified by Brookdale International Systems, Inc. (“Brookdale”), the manufacturer and supplier of the Smoke Eater Emergency Escape Filter for Survivair SCBA (“Smoke Eater Filter”), that it is suspending shipments of the Smoke Eater Filter, together with other filters and products manufactured by Brookdale, and is advising owners and users to suspend use of these products temporarily pending further inquiry by Brookdale.
Brookdale has advised that the suspension notification was being done out of an abundance of caution based on certain product test results. According to Brookdale, the test results in question relate to catalytic conversion of carbon monoxide which could present a risk of carbon monoxide inhalation to the end user.
Based on this notification from Brookdale regarding certain Brookdale products, including the Smoke Eater Filter which Survivair provides with its SCBA, Survivair strongly advises all owners of the Smoke Eater Filter NOT TO USE THIS PRODUCT, pending further testing and analysis by Brookdale. Brookdale advises that, by April 14 2006, the company will provide further notification about whether users can resume use, or whether Brookdale will be taking corrective action and the nature of any such action.
It is important that you immediately stop any use of the Smoke Eater Filter until further notification.
Please check American Airworks web site at: www.americanairworks.com/notices.html for further updates. Updates will be posted as well as emailed as we receive further notification from Brookdale.
