One firefighter needed medical treatment following a small blaze Friday night at a 6-story industrial tower on the Buzzi Unicem cement plant in Stockertown.
Crews were called a little after 8 p.m. to the kiln on the campus off Hercules Drive, and arrived to see flames on a third level platform, Forks Township Fire Chief Chuck Gallagher said.
The fire then jumped to the second and fourth levels of the tower, he said. Forks Township crews were helped by fire crews from Nazareth, Upper Nazareth, Palmer and Plainfield townships.
Firefighters used the stairs to reach the blaze and deployed ladder trucks from Forks and Nazareth fire departments to help fight the fires on the second and fourth levels.
One firefighter was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem Township for exertion. He was released about 30 minutes later, the chief said.
