A Firefighter in Everglades City (Florida) had to be rescued at the fire station after he overdosed on the job. Even though drugs were found in his car, he was never arrested and still has his job. Pills, pipes and a scale were found in the car of Firefighter Sergio Valdes right outside the Ochopee Fire Station.
Florida state law prohibits law enforcement from charging someone with drug possession if they need medical attention from a drug-related overdose.
Firefighters called deputies on October 27th because Valdes was acting strangely and head-butting the ground. When deputies arrived, they found him in his car, sweating and with a nosebleed. He was taken to Physicians Regional. When deputies searched his car, they found 57 blue pills, methamphetamine, and a drug test kit positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, and PCP.
