IOWA FIREFIGHTER DIES ON DUTY
The Secret List www.FireFighterCloseCalls.com
We regret to pass on to you that 29-year-veteran Des Moines Fire Department Fire Engineer Douglas McCauley, 58, died this morning because of an unknown medical problem that occurred yesterday.
FE McCauley was on a lunch break at a restaurant in the 4900 block of Southeast 14th Street when emergency services were called because of a serious medical event. Firefighters responded to the call and were dismayed to see who it was.
FE McCauley was transported from the scene to Iowa Methodist Unity Point hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
He was assigned to Fire Station No. 9 at the time of his death.
Sadly, Station No. 9 is no stranger to trauma that hits close to home — the firehouse responded when Urbandale police Officer Justin Martin, 24, and Des Moines police Sgt. Anthony “Tony” Beminio, 38 were killed in November. Our condolences to all those affected. R.I.P.
