6/11/1965 a Philadelphia, PA firefighter died “while working on the fire ground detail of an extra alarm from the day before at the Philadelphia Civic Center that was destroyed by a six-alarm fire on June 10, 1965, he collapsed and was taken to Philadelphia General Hospital, where he died a few hours later.
6/11/1977 two Greenport, New York firefighters died “while searching for a reported trapped child on the second floor of a two-story frame dwelling involved in a fire, they were caught in a locked room and trapped. Both quickly became disoriented in the heavy smoke and apparently ran out of air. They were found unconscious with their mask face pieces off. They were rushed to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead. It was discovered that the child had left the building with her father prior to the arrival of firefighters.”
