A veteran Fire Captain with Toronto (Canada) Fire Services is in critical condition after he and another Firefighter fell from the roof of a vacant downtown building where a three-alarm fire broke out early yesterday morning. Companies were called to a fire at the house in the area of Jarvis Street at around 0200. Fire conditions were so bad that crews were unable to initially conduct a primary search to see if anyone was inside.
The roof crew was attempting ventilation to allow for better interior access. Due to the smoke conditions, the Firefighters thought they were stepping onto a ledge whereas they actually fell 3 stories off the roof. 1 Firefighter suffered a broken leg and has since been released, however the Captain (with 30 years on the job) sustained “substantial” injuries and remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit. TFS officials advised it will be a few days before they know whether his condition will stabilize. KTIYP’s.
